As someone who easily gets nervous and isn't good at talking to people, I began taking photos at night. When I was in middle school, I would secretly sneak out of the house late at night and walk around the neighborhood. It felt like being swallowed by the darkness. It was as though I had entered another world.

As I wandered through the area, I seemed to blend into the taut silence.
The region around Nagoya, one of Japan’s three major cities, is known as the Chūkyō region. The term "Chūkyō" refers to the area centered around Nagoya, which, during the Meiji era, was proposed by local residents as a city that could rival Tokyo and Kyoto, located between the two. Originally, the Chūkyō region was considered to be within a 30 km radius of Nagoya, but with improvements in transportation, the area has gradually expanded. In recent years, even my hometown has come to be considered part of it. Personally, I have always thought of the Chūkyō region as the Nōbi Plain within a 35 km radius, spanning Aichi, Mie, and Gifu in the Tokai area. In this work, I walked within that circle. Though I have lived in the Chūkyō region my entire life, it remains an elusive concept that I still cannot fully grasp.
